Web Site Design: Costs

How much does it cost?

Every website is priced individually, but experience shows that small business sites fall into certain types:

• The 'here we are and this is what we do/sell' site for information purposes only: £200 - £350.
  If you have a lot of information to display - or there is a extra photographic work this could rise to £500.
• A site with response forms, product catalogues etc. is likely to fall in the range £500 - £1000.
• If you sell a significant number of products, which change regularly, I suggest that the catalogue is controlled by an online database. It is possible to set this up so that you can make changes yourself.
• Setting up the actual payment process for on line trading is normally charged in the range £100 - £150.

These are guide line budget figures that you can discuss with me at an initial meeting. The above are all one-off expenses.

Running Expenses

• Web site hosting (payable to reputable hosting company) in the range £5-£11 per month (VAT inc.) according to your site requirements.
• Domain registration about £2.50 per annum (for .co.uk) or about £11 per annum (for .com)
• Updating information - you are charged on the basis of time spent (no minimum charge per job) and you will be billed quarterly, or as appropriate, on a cumulative account. Significant work will be estimated before proceeding,
• On line trading fees.
  
  Using PayPal incurs no standing charge and currently charges 20p + 3.4% per card transaction by your customers.
  
  World Pay has a monthly standing charge (around £30) and transaction charges are around 50p (debit cards) or 5% (credit cards).

OUR CHARGES FOR BUSINESS SITES WITH ADVANCED FUNCTIONS ARE VERY COMPETITIVE. YOU COULD PAY TWO OR THREE TIMES AS MUCH FOR THE SAME PRODUCT.

At the 'low cost' end of the market, you will note that we do not quote under £200 (some firms do not quote under £2000!). If you want a 'one page web site' then perhaps you should work out exactly why you need one in the first place. A web site is a very powerful business tool when used effectively, but a bad site can have a negative effect, and it can be bad for my business too. I reserve the right to withdraw from any web design project that might involve work of a standard below what I regard as acceptable.
